Let me introduce myself and provide a bit of my background. I have been studying the Japanese language since 1984, using it extensively in a Japanese business setting.

 My English language (US) is quite advanced as well since I have been a student of English since early childhood as the son of a librarian, who brought her love of books home as an avid reader. I scored in the top 1% on the Verbal section of the GMAT exam and honed my ability in the marketing department of a Fortune 200 company for 11 years. 

 I initially lived in Japan from 1983 to 1985, teaching English and taking 6 hours of Japanese classes a week at Asahi Culture Center in Tokyo.

I continued my Japanese education in the international MBA program at the University of South Carolina from 1988 to 1990. This included 40 hours a week of immersion Japanese during the summers, 9 months of immersion study at the Nihongo Kenkyu Center (Center for Japanese Study) of Waseda University and an internship at an ad agency in Japan.

 After graduating from the MBA program, I was hired by an engineered equipment division of Ingersoll-Rand. I worked at Ingersoll-Rand for 11 years, including a 3-year expatriate assignment in Japan. During this assignment I was the only American located at a Japanese factory in Yokohama. It was truly a sink-or-swim experience since most of the workers had minimal English knowledge and all meetings and documents were in Japanese.

From 2001 to 2006 I worked at TSYS (a bankcard software and services company). About 50% of my time there was spent on Japanese-to-English translation for a period of 5 years.

I translated documents on a part-time basis from 2007 to 2010. From 2010 to the present I have been a full-time freelance translator, providing on-site language support at a Toyota Auto Body subsidiary, at Mitsubishi Electric and at seven International Paper plants. I created English product categories for Amazon's Japanese website to enable English speakers to easily find Amazon items specific to Japan.
